Excision

Excision is a procedure performed to remove a skin growth. This is done by numbing the skin and using a blade to cut the growth out of the skin. It is frequently necessary to remove a football shape so that the skin can be brought together as a straight line. Bleeding is usually minimal and often controlled with electrocautery and stitches followed by a bandage. An excision typically takes 20-40 minutes to complete.
